PRODUCER, CBS LOS ANGELES

Phil Berman is a producer with CBS/KCAL News in Los Angeles, and is the Treasurer for the STN board. Throughout his 21+ year career, Phil has produced for news stations in Miami, Tampa, Sarasota, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has produced, reported and anchored in Greenville, Mississippi. Outside of the newsroom… Phil likes to travel the world, host celebrity game nights, bake gluten free desserts, read mystery books, and practice origami- the Japanese art of paper folding. He’s taken part in STN conventions since 2013, and has no plans of stopping! Phil’s favorite part of STN is being able to give back to future journalists.



MEDIA INSTRUCTOR, MAUI WAENA INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL

Jennifer has been teaching at Maui Waena Intermediate School for 25 years, the first 11 in the language arts department. Then in 2009 she started the media program at her school. Since starting the program, the students have garnered both state and national awards, as well as producing videos for community partners and non-profit organizations. Her students also produce the school’s daily show, Daily Dive, and a weekly show, Falcon Features.

Jennifer resides on Maui with her wonderful husband, Don, her two sons, Holden and Nathan, and her two dogs, Bonnie and Dozer, who really run the house.

BUSINESS STRATEGIST, PROGRAM DIRECTOR & CLIENT DEVELOPMENT, SANDLER TRAINING

Pauline was introduced to STN as a student at Maui High School. Since then, she has been a supporter of STEM throughout the island by helping launch media and technology programs, mentorship, etc. Currently, Pauline is “adulting” in business operations, consulting, and strategy, but finds the most fulfillment in cultivating meaningful human connections. She travels, reads, and eats extensively in equal measures, and will always be happy to share a chat or a picture of her cat.



TV/FILM PRODUCTION INSTRUCTOR, MIAMI ARTS STUDIO

Dr. Marsh has spent most of his adult life in either the classroom, in the studio or on the stage. His childhood piano lessons led him to the Berklee College of Music where he received a scholarship to study with the world renowned vibraphonist, Gary Burton. After leaving Boston he moved to Miami to attend the University of Miami. This decision led to many years of higher education which resulted in degrees in education, music production and composition, all while recording or performing internationally with his own band, Nori Nori, or working on a variety of other artists projects. 


He is the executive director and co-founder of ASFI (After School Film Institute), a non profit organization that teaches every aspect of the filmmaking process to the youth in underserved communities of South Florida. He is also the director of the internationally award winning Television and Film magnet at Miami Arts Studio, and still actively composes, records and performs. He chairs the education council of Film Florida, sits on the Film and Entertainment advisory board for Miami-Dade county and now is proud to serve on the STN Board of Directors. He has been awarded many professional accolades, having been either the winner or a finalist for teacher of the year at the local, regional and state levels.

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER & FORMER FUNDRAISING RESEARCH COORDINATOR

Sara Boretz is a community volunteer who gives her time to the Upland Library, the Red Cross and Jericho Road.   Before retiring, she worked in fundraising as a prospect research coordinator for non-profits including California State University, Pomona and the Los Angeles Music Center.   She helped both organizations to find resources from individuals, corporations and foundations.  She served on the board of the California Advancement Researchers Association as convention and volunteer chair.

In her spare time, she can often be found baking, reading or working on puzzles of all kinds.   She is married to Mitch, a retired grant writer and administrator and has grown twin daughters.

CINEMATOGRAPHY INSTRUCTOR, CLARK MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL

A Massachusetts native now living in sunny Southern California, Josh is now in his 6th year teaching students at Clark Magnet High School in the areas of Broadcast and Digital Cinema Production. His program, Panther Studios, has achieved great success in his short time at the helm, winning 1st place in several national competitions. Many of his students have continued on to pursue a career in Broadcast and Film Production. A firm believer in the power of building community, Josh works hard to instill a sense of belonging in all of the students in his program. "It Takes an Army" is a battle call for his students to step up and support each other when times get tough.

Before teaching, Josh worked in the industry producing content for Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, the A&E Network, and WCVB-TV News in Boston. He brings with him experience in all areas of production, emphasizing the importance screenwriting and post have in the final product. He looks forward to contributing to the continued success of STN, and welcoming new broadcasting and film programs to the STN Family.


BROADCASTING & TECHNOLOGY INSTRUCTOR, PLACERITA JUNIOR HIGH

Paul is a math and technology teacher for 30 years.  He currently teaches at Placerita Junior High School in Newhall, Ca.  When he started at Placerita, he created Kid Flix Productions as a way for students to make digital movies.  29 years later, he still oversees the program and produces Miner Morning TV, Miner Monthly TV, and a new podcast Miner Details.  Paul’s other passion is in LEGO Robotics. Paul joined STN 21 years ago.  After 12 years on the board, Paul will move into his position as Past President/Honorary Board Member for the 23-24 school year.
