ZACH GARRETT

Karin cut her teeth both in front of and behind the camera at several local news networks including WAVY-TV10 (Norfolk, VA), Armed Forces Radio & Television (Naples, Italy) and WSOC-TV (Charlotte, NC) before transitioning to the true insanity of advising High School Broadcasts. She conceptualized and developed two award winning shows from scratch - first at Fort Mill High with The Buzz TV and currently at Catawba Ridge High School with CRN-TV. Both programs have won numerous honors, including several Pillars of Excellence awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, Pacemakers from NSPA, Broadcast Excellence Awards for Best Weekly Show and Best Daily Taped Show and Karin was honored in 2017 with STN Teacher of the Year. Karin is an Apple Certified Instructor, is a recurring presenter for PBS Student Reporting Labs, served on the Southeastern Interscholastic Press Association (SIPA) Board and is a judge for several state journalism associations. Aside from advising CRN-TV and teaching television production classes – she relishes her role as counselor, organizer, fashion adviser, makeup artist, life coach, mom and now grandma (KK) to her 70 part-time kids and the several real ones that share her last name!
