STN 2016-2017 FILM EXCELLENCE CONTEST DESCRIPTION

Contest Description

This prestigious international film contest honors excellence in student filmmaking. Only current paid STN affiliates are eligible for recognition. Films written, shot and produced between June 1, 2016 and December 7, 2016 are eligible for entry.

Before submitting an entry be sure to read and familiarize yourself with all of the rules and regulations contained in this document. Cheating and academic dishonesty are taken very seriously by STN so please read this document carefully.

Any affiliate who knowingly submits a Film Excellence entry that is found to be in deliberate violation could face sanctions from STN. Sanctions may include, but are not limited to, contest penalty or disqualification, a written reprimand sent to the affiliate school's administration, banned from entering STN contests in the future OR removal of STN membership privileges.

Film Excellence winners will be announced and recognized at the 2017 STN Convention in Anaheim, CA. Schools are not required to attend the convention to enter this contest.

Rules & Regulations

Entries that do not follow all the Rules & Regulations are subject to penalty and/or disqualification by the judges. All decisions by the judges are final. The Board of Directors of Student Television Network reserves the right to change or amend these Rules & Regulations, at any time, and without notice.

●     The STN Film Excellence Awards are open to all High School and Middle School filmmakers actively enrolled in a current STN member school between July 1 and Dec. 7 2016. Middle Schools may only enter for Middle School Best Film.

●     Any number of current students may have been involved in the making of a film entry but the online registration form will only take up to 6 names. More than 7 are considered "staff."

●     A film may be entered in more than one category and will only be considered for the categories in which it is entered.

●     Films entered in Film Excellence categories may not exceed 5 minutes except for Documentary, which may not exceed 20 minutes.

●     Students who enter the “Creative Categories” may submit the entire film of 5:00 or less OR an excerpt for the category from a longer film. Either way, the uploaded piece may not exceed 5:00. No compilations may be edited.

●     Advisers may NOT shoot, write or edit any part of an Excellence entry. This is a hands-off contest and must be 100% student produced.

●     Short films must avoid being gratuitously or explicitly violent, obscene, or overtly sexual. STN contest entries should avoid youth involved in risky, questionable, or illegal activities without also examining the outcomes, ramifications, or consequences of those activities.

●     Contest entries are subject to United States Copyright Laws and may be disqualified for disregarding these laws. Please refer to the STN website for our copyright policies.
