STN CONVENTION 2012 REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!

Important Instructions:
1.  Gather the following information before you start:
What students are attending?
What pre-convention training sessions will you and your students attend?
Will you participate in the Sweet 16 Contest?
Which contest will each student enter?
Which students will share rooms?
  
2.  Go to your dashboard for the link to register.  You must be a current, paid member of STN to register for the convention.
  
3.  Input data in upper and lower case, include the full name of your school and students, and spell all names correctly.  Our system is now automatic and your badges, contest entries and winners certificates are printed from YOUR input.  We cannot make manual changes so please be sure your information is correct.
 
4.  Be sure you have everything organized before you start.  Each time you change your invoice, you will be charged an additional $5.00.  Onsite changes will cost $10.00 EACH.  All payments must be made in full to participate in contests onsite.  STN cannot make any changes to your registration for you.
 
5.  Check the convention page on the STN website for all the details about contests, training and schedules.
 
6.  Review the Contest Schedule and the Contest Grid on the STN Convention Page.  NEW THIS YEAR:  All edit contests (except Convention Recap) will be SUPERVISED EDITS using your own equipment.  Please plan your contest entries to efficiently use your equipment.
 
NEW CONTEST RULES FOR 2012:
 All edited contests (except Convention Recap) will be supervised edits in the Landmark Ballroom. 

Sweet 16 will also be a supervised edit in the ballroom.  All Sweet 16 teams must edit in the ballroom.  The entire team can be in the ballroom for Sweet 16.

For all contests other than Sweet 16, each team may assign up to two (2) editors for their contests - this is the maximum allowed in the ballroom. 

Each student may enter Sweet 16 with their team and one other contest.

Street Reporter

Documentary has been eliminated

All convention fees must be paid in full to participate in contests.  Please send the payment in advance or bring it to registration onsite.

7. When you complete the registration, you will be given a link to book hotel rooms.  You cannot book rooms without a registration number.  We encourage all attendees to book rooms at the host hotel - the Hyatt Regency Dallas.  This helps STN meet its obligations, keeps costs reasonable and gives you and your students direct access to all the STN activities.

Martin Savidge

STN is honored to have MARTIN SAVIDGE from CNN as the keynote speaker at the convention.  Savidge is a correspondent for CNN based in the network’s world headquarters in Atlanta. In 2011, he has reported on breaking news stories, including the largest tornado outbreak in US history that moved through the Southeast, and the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan.

Savidge began his broadcasting career as an anchor and reporter for WCIA-TV in Champaign, Ill. in 1980. He then
moved to work as the prime-time anchor for WMBD-TV in Peoria, Ill. Savidge also has worked as a reporter for
the Associated Press and reported for CNN from 1996 to 2004. 
 In 2004, Savidge joined NBC News as a correspondent based in Atlanta, reporting for NBC Nightly News, the Today Show, and MSNBC. He was their primary correspondent in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005.

Savidge returned to CNN in 2011 and has covered breaking news throughout the globeHe delivered on-the-ground coverage of the military build up in Iraq and Kuwait in 2003, including embedding with the 1st Battalion of the 7th Marines. He has reported from Afghanistan, Kandahar, and Bagram, where he was the first television reporter to travel with the U.S. troops during Operation Anaconda. Following the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, Savidge reported from Ground Zero on the search and rescue mission.

Savidge has been honored with some of broadcast journalism’s most prestigious awards, including two Headliner Awards, two Edward R. Murrow Awards, A Peabody Award, Dupont Award, nine local Emmy awards, six Associated Press awards, two United Press International awards and two Women in Communication awards. In October 2002, the National Journalism Education Association named Savidge its Media Person of the Year for his support of scholastic journalism.

In addition to delivering the keynote speech on Thursday March 22, Mr. Savidge will be available for breakout sessions, interviews and contests during the convention.
