STN 2014 KEYNOTE SPEAKER
ANDREW JENKSProducer/Director

At age 19, Andrew moved into an assisted living facility and produced a documentary about the residents titled, ANDREW JENKS, ROOM 335, that turned into an international hit.

At 21, ESPN financed Andrew's second film, THE ZEN OF BOBBY V, which tracked Bobby Valentine, an American baseball coach who has become a national icon in Japan.

In 2010, Jenks created MTV's WORLD OF JENKS, focusing on stories not normally told: from a young homeless woman, to a physically abused football star, to a young adult with Autism. Jenks imbedded himself in their lives and tells their stories from an insider view.

Jenks was the face for MTV News' coverage for the 2012 Presidential Election, traveling the country speaking with Millennials and asking questions to Presidential candidates.

In 2013, Andrew created the All American High School Film Festival, a showcase for talented high school filmmakers and media arts enthusiasts from around the world.

Jenks is currently in production on projects including a partnership with the MAC (Cosmetics) AIDS Fund, to develop a feature length documentary about personal stories of young people from around the world whose lives are affected by HIV/AIDS and a documentary centered on the 2005 murder trial and controversial conviction, of college student Ryan Ferguson.

Andrew Jenks epitomizes the spirit of STN: the drive to identify a real story, the courage to tell the story and the skill to present the story in our medium.

STN CONVENTION UPDATE:
  JANUARY 15, 2014

REGISTRATION INFO:

- REGISTRATION
Your school must be a current member of STN to register for the convention. We will accept new members who would like to attend the convention at any time.

The online registration system will close on February 18, 2014 at 5:00 pm Pacific time. This will allow us to prepare the materials for the convention.

We will re-open the registration system onsite. However, there will be no guarantees of available space in contests so we encourage you to register before February 18. Changes made after February 18 will incur additional charges. Please see "Payments, Refunds and Changes" online.

MIDDLE SCHOOL ONE DAY PASS
STN is offering the one day pass on Friday March 21 for middle schools as a way to introduce middle school students to the excitement of an STN convention. The pass is only $50 and includes the Opening Ceremony, professional sessions, exhibit booths and some specialized middle school discussions. Day Pass registrants may not enter contests. Please register via the online system.

- PAYMENTS
All convention fees must be paid in order to participate in onsite contests during convention. Payment can be made by credit card or check. Purchase orders do not constitute payment; they are only a promissory note for payment. If necessary, you can bring your payment to the convention. However, your onsite registration may be delayed.

SWEET 16:

- Sweet 16 Convergent Media

This new contest challenges a high school team to create a website based on the prompt. Each team will receive credentials at the briefing from US Education TV for a new site. We urge you to sign up NOW for a free US Education TV site so you will be ready for this contest.

- Sweet 16 Editing and Food

STN has planned for 107 Sweet 16 tables – they will be taken on a first-come basis. One table per Sweet 16 registration. You may NOT bring outside food into the edit room. However, you may cater food in from the Orange County Convention Center. Please contact Melinda Kieffer

We have also arranged for custom vouchers. Here's how it works:

You come up with a price point. For example, each voucher is worth $10.

You decide how many $10 vouchers you need – let's say you need 50 ($500 worth).

You arrange for the vouchers with Melinda and pay 80% up front ($400.00)

You design and print the voucher using the template and get it approved.

You distribute the vouchers and they are used onsite.

You pay the last 20% and any additional at the end of the show.

HOTEL:

- RESERVATIONS

We have reserved a large block of rooms at the Rosen Plaza Hotel. Our block guarantee will end on February 18 when registration closes. After February 18, Rosen Plaza will no longer guarantee rooms or the current rate we have negotiated. There are several other events taking place in the area at the same time and rooms will be scarce and expensive. We encourage you to register for the convention and then register for your rooms by February 18 using the form on the STN website. Please do not hold extra rooms you do not need.

The Rosen Plaza Hotel is connected to the Orange County Convention Center.
